White Earth Veterans Association is hosting “The Wall”, A Tribute to our Veterans August 20 – 25 at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN. The Wall is being transported in 2 semi trailers thru the Fargo-Mhd area on Wednesday, August 20th. The semis will arrive at the West Fargo VFW at 308 Sheyenne Street approximately 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday to meet up with the North Dakota Patriot Guard to be escorted to the Minnesota border.
Bonanzaville will come alive this weekend serving as the host site for a very special 50th anniversary Pioneer Days celebration Saturday, Aug. 16, and Sunday, Aug. 17, with the John Deere line of farm machinery and tractors highlighted throughout the two-day event. Vintage parades will also be featured each day at 2 p.m., complete with classic cars, tractors, and more.
One of West Fargo’s biggest events once again lived up to expectations – spurred on by perfect weather conditions and families and friends looking for interaction and fun, all the while, absorbing the educational value of a great night in Elmwood Park.
Curt Jones, West Fargo High School’s Activities Director, approached the board with requests to consider additional co-curricular staffing for the 2008-2009 school year. The requests include the addition of an assistant coach for Student Congress at the high school; adjusting a part-time Track and Field coaching position to full-time to compensate for the growing number of participants; adding an assistant varsity coach for girls golf, a junior high coach for boys golf; and an assistant junior varsity coach for boys soccer.
Organizers of the 10th annual Taste of West Fargo appreciation picnic couldn’t be more pleased with the number of individuals who turned out at Elmwood Park Aug. 7, to support the event and enjoy some great food and conversation. The event was sponsored by the West Fargo Area Chamber of Commerce and the Ambassadors Committee, assisted by a number of local businesses.
Rev. Bob Allen has been serving as interim pastor at Shiloh Evangelical Free Church in West Fargo since last April. He claims he decided to go into semi-retirement a couple of years ago because he thought it was time to start thinking about slowing down, but so far, it hasn’t happened. After 40 years in the ministry, he is still going strong.

You might be thinking “what does he mean, ‘what is a frog?’ It’s green, hops, eats flies and goes ‘ribbit, ribbit.’” It seems like a pretty easy question, but two out of five kids, ages nine-to-11, when showed a picture of just that animal, could not identify it. Another stumper for the youth in the survey was a picture of an oak tree. More than half of the 700 participants, all students in England, could not identify the acorn-producing species – their own national tree. Other apparently hard-to-identify organisms for half of the group included the daddy long legs and the bluebell.
Last year when the West Fargo 13-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team advanced to the World Series, one coach described it as a “once in a lifetime” opportunity.
